When Music Attacks! January, February, March 2014
^^ Damien Jurado w/ Courtney Marie Andrews
Su 1/26 @ DC Nine
8:30 pm | $12
** Jason Isbell w/Holly Williams
Tu 1/28 @ 9:30 Club
This is sold out and I’m a jerk and only one friend to join me based on my a priori knowledge of their fandom. We are going. It’s going to be amazing. Be jealous now, then, and later.
^^ Lost In The Trees with All Tiny Creatures
M 2/17 @ Rock N Roll Hotel
8 pm | $12 / $14
** Yellow Ostrich with Pattern Is Movement
M 3/3 @ DC Nine
8:30 pm | $12 / $14
I love this band. BIG TIME. Anyone who has received Music Forecast emails from me knows this fact. I saw them in Seattle in November and they killed it. I can’t wait to see them for the fourth time at this tiny venue. I’m going to fan-girl-stalk Alex Scaaf so hard.
** BABY BRY BRY with Slothrust
T 3/4 @ Rock n Roll Hotel
8 pm | $12
I’ve seen this band twice and adore them big time with a heart shaped sound in my heart shaped heart. Full disclosure: I work with and am friends with the creative force of this band, Bryan Gerhart. However, I am not biased when I say they rock. Give their sound cloud tracks a listen but know that the translation to live performance is raucous, carefully crafted, and crazy-dance-body-racking-fun.
^ Dr. Dog with Cotton Jones
F 3/14 @ 9:30 Club
8 pm | $27
You don’t think you’ve heard this band before, but you have. http://www.drdogmusic.com/
** Typhoon with Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, Wild Ones
W 3/19 @ 9:30 Club
7 pm doors | $18
I was only recently introduced to Typhoon — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHRFhLxuLj8
but I’ve seen Lady Lamb The Beekeeper twice as the opener for stellar bands. http://ladylambthebeekeeper.com/videos/
** Shearwater with Death Vessel and Jesca Hoop
F 3/21 @ Rock N Roll Hotel
9pm | $12 / $14
I love this band a lot. Saw them open for Sharon Van Etten in support of their album Animal Life (which Bob Boilen loved, if that means anything to you).
Give this cover of “Quit Draggin’ My Heart Around” and make the right choice.
“I Luv The Valley Oh!” is worth listening to. It’s a Xiu Xiu cover and they nail it.
** How To Dress Well with Forest Swords
Sa 3/22 @ U Street Music Hall /$15
How To Dress well is one of my favorite bands, introduced to me by Avi. These songs feature heavily on my playlists. I can’t tell you which ones because I don’t want to dilute my mojo.
